This full-day virtual conference, in collaboration with UCI Initiative to End Family Together with UCI Initiative to End Family Violence (IEFV), we are proud to bring you Forward Together: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Protecting Children from Abuse on Friday, November 18 from 8:45 am to 5 pm PT.


This full-day virtual conference will offer multidisciplinary perspectives on protecting children from family violence in the context of child custody or divorce cases. National experts, leading legislators, survivors and courageous kids will address policy reforms, trauma concerns and intervention strategies.

 

Together, attendees can move forward prioritizing child safety and health in family court cases.

 

This event is been approved for 6.0 hours for Minimum Continuing Legal Education Credit by the State Bar of California. The University of California, Irvine School of Law is a State Bar-approved MCLE provider.

This year the awards went to Ana Estevez, Protective Parent and Advocate; Jayne O’Donnell and Mabinty Quarshie from USA Today for their story ; Gillian Friedman with the Deseret News, CA Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio who has lead Piqui’s Resolution, AB 1179 and AB 2044; Honorable Greg Laughlin and Craig Saperstein with Pillsbury, Winthrop, Shaw and Pittman who lead the effort for H. Con. Res. 72; Gigi Graciette with Fox 11 News Los Angeles for her story Finding Piqui and Louise Haigh bringing change to the UK as a Member of Parliament.

Please join California Protective Parents Association for our Spring 2018 Conference, Domestic Violence and the Battle for Custody: moving towards child safety.

This year our conference will include the screening of Rachel Meyrick's powerful film, "What Doesn't Kill Me," that takes you into the crisis, hearing from experts, to understanding how this is happening in our family courts today. 

Come and hear whistleblower and former Family Court Judge DeAnn Salcido offer solutions on how to address domestic violence cases. Judge Salcido retells her training of dismissing abuse and how children end up in the care of their abusers. She is providing tools and solutions at this event. 

The film will be followed by a panel discussion including Kathleen Russell, Executive Director of the Center for Judicial Excellence.

Social Justice Movement

 Joining Voices in Washington
Since H. Con. Res. 72 has passed in the House on September 25, 2018 with zero opposition and 86 cosponsors, it is unclear if we will be hosting any gatherings in Washington D.C. in the near future.  Many protective parents have been taking trips to DC on their own to speak to their Senators to support child safety as a first priority.  We ask you speak with your House Representatives though and request the oversight hearings as noted in H. Con. Res. 72.  Please check back for updates.  

Testimonials and Public Comment

Most board and council meetings provide for public comment. On occasion, the child safety crisis wil be an agenda item; other times we speak during public comment. Attend a board meeting to help raise awareness to this problem and increase accountability. Your presence will show the board these issues need immediate attention.
